I am the leader of the Ocean Physics and Tracer Transport Group, and an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University. Our research focuses on ocean dynamics, particularly on how the ocean transports heat and other tracers around the globe. We use a combination of theory, ocean models and scalable analysis tools in python.

Ayantika Bhattacharjee

PhD Student

I am a PhD student working on upper-ocean turbulence and the distribution of kinetic energy across mesoscale and submesoscale flows. My research includes the use of statistical diagnostics to quantify kinetic energy in the ocean, as well as machine learning parameterizations of subgrid processes in ocean models.

Aoming Yu

PhD Student

I am a PhD student studying ocean current variability and water transport in the equatorial Atlantic. My research focuses on how water from the Southern Hemisphere crosses the equator and enters the Northern Hemisphere along the western boundary of the Atlantic. I also examine how this transport changes over time. I use ocean models and virtual particles to track water pathways and investigate the processes that influence these changes.

Nicole Neumann

PhD Student

I am a PhD student in oceanography studying the role of mesoscale processes in ocean circulation and tracer transport. My research focuses on how uncertainty in isopycnal mixing parameterizations affects Southern Ocean circulation, surface buoyancy fluxes, and Antarctic Bottom Water formation. I use idealized ocean models to investigate the physical mechanisms connecting mesoscale mixing, wind forcing, and the large-scale overturning circulation.
